BETHANY ASSEMBLY’S MAPS TRIP
2007 Missions Construction Team Returns to El Progreso, Honduras
April 26 – May 6, 2007
Sixteen men and women from Bethany Assembly returned to El Progreso, Honduras April 26 through May 6, 2007, to continue working on a new Latin America Child Care School building. Bethany’s 2005 crew began the work on the two-story, 20-classroom structure with the first 3 concrete block classrooms. This year’s team did equally well with three more on top of those classrooms. By January, 2008, when the new school term begins, those 6 classrooms will be functional, and will house the 7th and 8th grades promoted from the existing elementary school (two blocks away). The team worked again with Missionary Becky Hoshaw and the husband/wife team of Mario & Gladys Baday, who are the Administrator and Director of the LACC school there in El Progreso, an hour outside of San Pedro Sula. When finished, the existing elementary school will move into the new facility, and plans are then to build the new church building adjacent to the new school. This is a large undertaking by a wonderful group of dedicated, Spirit-filled believers who want to make a difference in their children and their community. Bethany Assembly is delighted to partner with this church and school to make their vision a reality.
The primary duties for this trip consisted of laying concrete block, fabricating steel rod structures for the columns and bond beams, and pouring those columns and bond beams with concrete, bucket by bucket. It was the hottest on record for a team from Bethany, with some days reaching 114 degrees. The food prepared by the ladies of the church was fabulous, and the fellowship with our Honduran brothers and sisters was wonderful. The team did an awesome job, and did more than expected in the 11-day trip. Tentative plans are to return to El Progreso next year and continue the construction of this much-needed facility. This project has become “our baby”, and we want to see it finished! If you want to help with construction funds for this project, you can contact Bethany Assembly for more information as to how you can be a part of this great ministry.
Latin America Child Care is a ministry of Assemblies of God World Missions, building schools in needy areas of Central and South America and the Caribbean. Not only do they build the buildings (with help from construction teams like ours), but also garner sponsors in the states who pay monthly support for each student to have a uniform, a hot meal, and a good education. Begun in 1963, there are presently over 300 LACC schools throughout Latin America. If you would like more information on LACC and its mission, go to www.latinamericachildcare.org.
